Round One... Fight!

It’s been said (or sung) that “Life is a Highway”. Even now as I write this post I can hear myself humming that familiar tune. Life is very reminiscent of a highway, with all its points of entries, different speeds, smiling faces, angry ones and unlimited exits that strain you, because you want to make sure you don’t miss the right one. My goal with this blog is to hopefully help you navigate that highway by giving you some insight on what’s worked for me, and others, when it comes to balancing work, school, family, friends and your own self care. If I can refrain from writing my whole autobiography in one post, I plan to post at least thrice a week, some of my own, and others, best practices when it comes to taking on the battles of everyday life.

For the past year now I have been minoring in journalism/media studies at The University of Northern Colorado; That minor should come to an end before the summer has gone, and I look forward to utilizing the skills I’ve learned from those studies on this blog. All of us could use a little help when it comes to finding symmetry in our professional and personal life; I know I did. I want to help others find that balance and I want to keep growing in that juggling act as well. One strength that I’ve discovered while studying journalism is I truly do enjoy telling a good story. On the negative side, I’m such a “big picture” person, in that sometimes I forget to tell the little intricate details that help the story take form. When it comes to blogging I have absolutely no experience here. I never even kept a journal or diary as a kid. I think the closest I came to it was when I was younger I pretended to be a kid detective and I used to write notes in my notebook of make-believe stories. Otherwise, keeping track of anything was always done in my head.

If there’s anything I have learned about myself over the past two years from being back in school though is that I absolutely love writing; and after taking public speaking, I absolutely love talking to the masses, so I hope it shows here. Something that worries me about blogging is I don’t necessarily like being vulnerable, but I think in order for people to really understand me and where I’m coming from, I may have to share some things down the line that may get personal. However, I’m confident in this beat, and I’m confident in sharing what has worked for me. I also hope to keep growing in this journey as I share and do more research on this topic. I don’t believe anyone will ever reach the peak of what they’re capable of, and that should give many the will to keep wanting more. Life will knock you down, but as Rocky Balboa once put it, “It ain’t about how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward!”. it’s on you to get back up and… Fight!

  1. Chris, I think your blog seems very detailed and interesting! I like your perspective of "finding balance" and I agree with how difficult that can be. Rocky Balboa is an excellent example of a role model, he's strong, dedicated and well known. I am really looking forward to more tips and advice from you!

  2. Chris, blog looks great! I really liked how you talked about how finding balance is an ever-going process that you have to keep focusing and working on. I also liked what you said about being a big picture kind of person. I also think of myself as one and often struggle with smaller details as well. I'm looking forward to reading about your advice about finding balance, as this is something I definitely struggle with!
